Today, April 18, 2016, San Francisco commemorated the 110 anniversary of the 1906 Earthquake and Fire. It's an early morning for SFDEM staff and what I noticed today, was the importance (once again) of telling a compelling story.
It's one thing to gather at 5 AM to sound sirens and paint a fire hydrant gold... it's quite another to share the story, both past and future of those activities. As the Ring of Fire grows ever more active the importance of sharing history and telling a compelling story of preparedness, infrastructure safety and community resilience remains ever more vital.
That's the 110 year lesson the 1906 earthquake continues to impart on San Francisco.
